From Burnout To Breakthrough
Why I Started EventCEOs
In 2016, I launched VirtualRealityRental.co, imagining it would be a small, local business. But it grew—fast. Before I knew it, we were servicing events around the world and generating millions in revenue. From the outside, it looked like a dream. Inside, I was barely surviving.
I worked 12-hour days. I made mistake after mistake. I reinvented the wheel when I should have asked for help. I burned out. Then burned out again.
At one of my lowest points, I thought, There has to be a better way. I can’t be the only one who’s gone through this.
That thought sparked a relentless pursuit of answers. I hired coaches in finance, sales, and operations. I read nearly 100 books. I attended conferences. I joined masterminds. Slowly, I started working on the business instead of drowning in it.
The results were transformative.
I became a better manager. I built a better business. Eventually, I broke free from the day-to-day grind. I wasn’t running marketing, sales, finance, or operations anymore—I was the business owner. I had built a profitable, sustainable company that didn’t depend on me.
And then came March 12, 2020.
The pandemic hit. Everything fell apart.
We’d just signed a lease for a bigger office. February 2020 had been our best month on record. Then, overnight, the cancellations started. Refund requests poured in. Revenue vanished. Everything I feared most—losing my business—happened. And it wasn’t because of anything I did.
I was bitter. Frustrated. Angry.
We pivoted to virtual events, but the logistics of moving VR headsets around the world during a pandemic were impossible. Sitting in the depths of uncertainty, I faced a choice:
Bet that events were never coming back or bet that they’d come back stronger than ever.
I hedged my bets and chose both.
For events, I doubled down on what was working. I expanded to multiple brands and broadened our service lines. When the world opened back up, we were ready.
But rebuilding wasn’t easy.
I fought like hell to recover, leaning on everything I’d learned and the community of event CEOs who had supported me through the toughest times. We shared resources, insights, and strategies. Together, we rebuilt.
That’s when I realized something: this community of support was one of the most valuable tools I’d ever had.
EventCEOs is the result of that realization.
I created it because I know what it’s like to feel lost, burned out, and overwhelmed. I know the power of learning from others, avoiding mistakes, and leaning on the experience of those who’ve been there.
EventCEOs is the community I wish I’d had when I started. It’s raw. It’s real. It’s built to help you grow further and faster—to thrive, not just survive.
If you’re ready to learn, grow, and protect your business from whatever comes next, I’d love for you to join us.
